3rd 100 Days of Scouting: Day 5

Day 5

Love the jacket on this book.

My wife is ill with pneumonia, and I spent the day quietly reading about Scouting trends and updating my pack and troop on odds and ends while watching over her.

Recommended to our pack that we pull together a more robust camping plan.  Currently we participate in the council-wide events--Family Camp, Cub-Adult Camp, and resident summer camp.  I would like to see us head out monthly during the warmer 8 months of the year, with maybe a cabin camp in the dead of winter.  Which isn't so harsh in Virginia.

Cleared out the backlog of old email I had saved from various Scouting lists.  Great way to come up to speed on the topics most pressing to the Scouting community.

Resent the links I had forwarded to the troop regarding our March campout: Old Scout Campout.  We aren't bringing anything (gear, food, clothing, etc.) that wouldn't have been available to a Scout in 1920.

2nd 100 Days of Scouting: Day 5

Animal Science Merit Badge

Nice day out today, prematurely warm.

Spent a lot of time out looking at my garden, cleaning up the area in between the square-foot boxes, and adding more leaves to add to the rot.

So what does that have to do with Scouting?

Everything.

Today I:
  • Spent time thinking about the direction of our program, and admitting holes that need filling.
  • Cleaned up some of the loose ends that have been hanging out there--getting Scout Sunday patches tallied, clearing out old Scout related email, and checking the calendar for the week.
  • Confirmed my extra adult for the campout--and released another who was in a bind with his schedule.

Plenty of new material added to our Scouting, and it will need to sit and rot for awhile before any good comes from it.  What Scout gardening did you tend to today?

100 Days of Scouting: Day 5

Today I:

Contacted my state delegate about instituting a version of "Scouting for State Parks" in Virginia.

Submitted our council's Eagle Scout recommendation form for the Advancement Committee.

Published Weekend Patrol Box #29 from Scoutsigns.  Also posted to BoyScoutTalk and CubScoutTalk YahooGroups.

Have you publicized 100 Days of Scouting to your fellow leaders?  Do your good turn and share the challenge!
